Shopping for New Boots

October 4, 2012 at 11:55 pmCategory:Fashion | Home and Yard | My Life

My closet probably storesĀ  more shoes and boots than it does actual clothes. But all my boots are fashion boots. I have all different kinds of materials and colors, a variety of heel heights, some have buckles, others have zippers. But when it come down to survival int he cold weather, I just realized that I don not have a single pair of good, waterproof snow boots.

This weekend I will take care of that problem. I want to have a pair of moon boots or something like insulated hiking boots, so that if we get a bad snow storm or a bad ice storm this year and I have a problem getting out of the house that I can still at least walk to the store to buy food and supplies.

Birds vs Squirrels

K-Mart had some cute bird feeders on sale so I bought three of them and hung them up in the yard. The bird seed was only about $10 for a great big bag, so I filled the feeders up and every once in a while I look out my window and see some birds at the feeders. I think once the feeder is filled up it doesn’t need a refill for about 5 or 6 days. It also depends on if it is rainging or not. If its raining the birds don’t visit the feeders, but the squirrels do.

I looked out back today and say three squirrels raiding the bid feeder that I put in the backyard. Those little fuckers were cleaning it out of the large sunflower seeds and kernels of corn, and spilling all the smaller seeds onto the ground. The problem with the seeds falling onto the ground is that they get wet from the rain and the dew, and then the birds won’t eat the seeds.

I don’t mind the squirrels getting some of the food – they have to eat, too. But it pisses me off to see all those small seeds on the ground being wasted. I have to figure out a solution to this squirrel problem.

No Helmet is No Excuse

On Saturday I saw some kids riding through the neighborhood on a minibike. That was different, because for one thing there aren’t any kids in my neighborhood and for another thing its not legal to ride minibikes on the street with traffic. And these kids were not wearing a helmet, either. I wonder what the hell their parents are thinking by letting them ride a minibike in traffic and not even have on helmets.

I don’t want to be a Debby Downer, but that just seems so irresponsible to me. Kids are precious and although they will do a lot of stupid and dangerous things, it is the parent’s job to make sure they don’t break any laws and that they are kept as safe as possible. Everyone knows that riding a bicycle or a motorcycle is not safe without a helmet. I can’t be mad at the kids for doing it – I blame the parents – and especially if there is any kind of accident and either of those kids gets hurt!

Kick Ass Boots

With all this rain around here, I’ve got a huge mud puddle in my front yard. There is not any way to get from the front door of my house to my car without walking through a half inch of rain water or an inch of plain brown slimy mud.

So I’m shopping for a pair of rain boots. I can’t believe that I’m having to buy boots at all – it’s not like I’m a little kid that you stick galoshes on. But, I don’t want to ruin my $200 pair of Madden’s, either. So I found these really cute boots online and I’m ordering those suckers today.

The ones I like are called “Sloggers” Have you seen them? Aren’t they kick ass? I love the light blue color – just the thing I need to brighten up my morning dash through the mud to my car!

Raking Leaves

The best part of this time of year is the leaves that turn bright colors. It is amazing to me that just a few degrees lower in temperature can trigger a beautiful fall display of color everywhere we look. Most states in the U.S. have some trees that turn color. Only a few stay brown year round, such as Florida. I believe all the other states do have some parts of their state that have fall color. If I am wrong about that, let me know.
